Thumbs up O/D fixed! WOO-HOO!!

Well like the title says...woo-hoo!! Some of you might remember a post I had made concerning the OD on my truck, Overdrive problems . Well, today I figured I`d drop the pan and have a look see, if nothing else I`d get to service the unit/adjust the bands. WELL, lo and behold I spy the OD solenoid, and sure unough one of the attaching bolts is basically falling out and the other two were not quite "tight". So what was happening is when the unit got warm enough the loose solenoid was bleeding off enough oil to cause the unit to drop out of 4th. The OD sol is nothing more than a controlled leak in the 4th gear hydraulic ckt, and when the PCM commands 4th it closes off the controlled leak and 4th gear applies, in my case enough oil was leaking past to cause the 4th gear drop-out. This would explain also, why if I mashed the skinny pedal sometimes it would pop back into 4th, because the higher line/TV psi was compensating for the leaky solenoid...but it`s kind of a bad thing to drive with your foot on the floor all the time . So, a $30.00 case of ATF (dex 3), one bottle of Lubeguard Red and the unit is working better than ever. Just thought I`d give everyone a heads up considering how many OD probs these trucks seem to have.

I don't think there's anything on these trucks that the Cummins can't shake loose.
