NP 205 transfer case

I can't find this anywhere. What lube do you use in the NP 205 and how much?

I am here in Pa. Normal temps run from 0 to 100*. I would say normal use stuff.

thanks

75w-90 gear oil. Mine's filled up to the hole, sitting level.

BTW, I have no idea if this is correct, just guessing.

I have the shop manual but I can't find a thing about the capacity of the case. It says above 32*F to use SAE 50 motor oil or SAE 90 gear oil above -10*f. I was just wondering if you guys have a reason to use something else. The big thing right not is how much does it hold?

thanks

One of the manuals I have says engine oil, but I prefer gear oil, keeps things quieter.

75w-90 will do just fine.

Ok I think I may have found it. Does 4.5 pints sound right? I thought it would be a lot more.

Don't know, haven't changed the oil in one in a while. I always fill it right till it runs out the fill plug.

I just wanted to have the right amount before I dumped it. Well anyway I went ahead and drained it. It looks like about 2.5 quarts so I guess I'll get three and see if I can get it to come out the hole. I'll let ya know.

From what i remember they called for anything from the thickest to the thinnest stuff out there base on temps and how severe the use was. I used the stuff for severe extreme duty. Unless your in the artic I see no real need to put thinner oil in there for the cold.

I have three NP-205s that fare very well with 85W-140 gear oil.
