No Tach Signal from pcm?
I installed a new Isspro 2.25" tachometer and NOTHING?
Any suggestions? I figured the first thing to come to mind was the Crankshaft sensor, but if there was a problem w/ it I'd be w/o a charge from alternator "generator". Correct ? What else would be a symptom if there was a problem in that sensor curcit?

I hooked a scanner up to the computer on mine to see what the idle RPM was, scanner says 0 RPM. I'm not sure the computer keeps track of the RPM, it might just look to see that there's a signal from the crank sensor so it knows the engine's running.

Re:No Tach Signal from pcm?
I had the same problem when I first installed my ISSPRO tach. The tach was bad right out of the box. If you used the connector under the dash make sure the lead from the tach is hooked up properly.
I'm betting that you wired it correctly but the tach is no good. When mine dies and it will, I will replace with some other brand.

Re:No Tach Signal from pcm?
According to the manual the PCM is supposed to provide a signal. Also Mounty AKA "Okiebonkrider" has a instructions for Tach. instalations here on DTR under tech. facts. As for the quality of the gauge ? Yes the one I ordered and waited 4 months is specificly made for a dodge 92-93 model.
I checked the crankshaft pos. sensor this wk-end and as far as the gap of .050" + or - .001" it's good, still no signal. I'm going to price a new sensor and go from there.
From what I read in the man. the PCM controls the charging system, O.D. shifting, & produces a tach. signal from the imfo. it get's from the C.P.S..

TurboAZ;
How did you know or test to determine the tach was bad?
I would like to find out what voltage or resitance I'm looking for coming from the PCM.I put a new CPS on and still no tach. >
The local *********** wanted $75.00 just to hook up diagnostics. The truck has a 178k mi on it so for $88.00 I replaced the CPS."Rolling the dice ya know"
I noticed the CPS has what looks like a common pwr. supply (5 vdc) w/ the TPS unit. I'm still not getting 4-3 gear down shift,(man. override does work) which is also linked w/ CPS "engine rpm", veh. speed sensor,ect.

Re:No Tach Signal from pcm?
Ramguy, Save your money and buy the pick up kit from isspro, I went thru the same thing, even sent the tach back to them via next day air, after installing the pick up kit, ALL is FINE. p.s. I waisted money on a new oem pick up, before doing this :'(

forgot to tell you that I used some of the leads in the factory plug, power and light I think, but I just ran the 2 wires outside for the pick up. Made it easier to wire up for me.

PumpDaddy;
I want to know can you run both, OEM pickup and ISSPRO's?
I had checked on that sensor kit about $50.00, I have a remote start that has been DISFUNCTIONAL for years over not receiving a good rpm signal. I was conidering the kit for that reason. Thanks have good evening.

Re:No Tach Signal from pcm?
I'm running both and no problems. The magnets are about 1/8" or less tall. If my old mind serves me right, I raised the oem pick up to just clear the magnets by about .010 or so. My camera is at the shop, so I can't get you a picture, but can in the morning. I have had no problems with alt charging, maybe the magnets are giving it a signal, who knows, but the tach works. I even checked my plug and had a signal in mvolts on the tach lead, it changed as I revved the motor, but the isspro pick up fixed it. just for you info, I had some of that 2 part epoxy that you can buy at the hardware store in the 2 in 1 tubes, mixed it up and smweared a LIGHT coat over them after the "glue" had dried. Just be sure and CLEAN the balancer with sand paper and acetone, then use their cleaner and glue, DON'T touch any of the surfaces with your fingers, the oil will eventually make them come loose, best to use "them rubber gloves that nobody likes"

Did you buy the one for the 92-93 that just plugs into the connector under the dash?

Where th' heck is that connector? I was under th' dash today installing a Turbo Temp Monitor and looked for the connector but didn't see one. :

Re:No Tach Signal from pcm?
The sun didn't shineth and the rain did raineth but what th' heck - - found the connector and got the tach plugged in. Wonder why Isspro sends butt connectors instead of the insulated spade? Anyway, got spade connectors and all's well.
