Yeah, letting the smoke out of the rings going down the road followed later by loud noises coming from the engine is never a good thing. If you have a line on another engine being available I'd be thinking about getting that locked in and preparing for an engine swap.

I would swap motors. You can't fix what's wrong with the '93 motor for less than $450.
