Nice load to haul

Got to haul a nice load in my truck Sunday. It is elk season here in SW WA and I had a cow tag. The fact it was in a GMU that is known for trophy elk did not help the matter. Needless to say, I had to pass on the 2 legal bulls in the heard. Instead, I went for a set of trophy ears.

I normally hunt alone and I dropped her at 2:30pm. It started snowing at 4 and by 4:30, it was pretty much dark. I got her gutted, skinned and quartered then I hauled a hind quarter down that night and went up and packed the rest out Sunday morning. Me and a friend got it out in one trip. Of course, there was now 4-6 inches of snow on the roads (I wish I had a w250) so the meat was well chilled.

The butchering begins Wednesday. Why Wednesday you ask? Because tomorrow, I am installing my new PDR HX35. ;D It is going to be a good week of vacation! I need it after spending my last week of vacation at the mother-in-law's house.

Re:Nice load to haul

;D ;DBob,
I've been hunting here in WA for 5 years now. The tally so far, 2 blacktail and 2 elk (big 5x5 and cow this year). Can you say "I don't buy meat at the store!"

I grew up hunting in TX and I don't think people believe some of my stories. Like the opening morning I saw 13 different bucks, and 7 more that afternoon. Or when I went to shoot a BIG 8pt (TX count is all the points added on both sides) but spooked it when I spooked the three other deer that were just as big that had snuck up behind me.

Everyone told me blacktails are not creatures of habit. I did not believe them so whene I saw a big 4 pt. (western count) during elk season, I went back opening day of late buck and caught him standing not 10 feet from where I had seen him 4 days earlier. Yes, the 7mmSTW did connect.

I'm sure your persistence WILL pay off. And I suspect some cube steaks and or hamburger might accidently find their way north in the near future. ??? ;D

Re:Nice load to haul

Glad to see you have your priorities straight. Bomb first, get dinner later.

Congradulations on the kill.

Re:Nice load to haul

The HX35 went on Tuesday am. Almost completed the mandatory break-in milage. Sounds like a jet turbine winding up when I accelerate, even gently. ;D Wife hasn't said anything about the noise yet but I suspect she will ask why is my truck making that noise.

The meat is almost all cut up, a little grinding and cubing and it is ready to package!
