Newb questions about my truck
Hello,
I have a few questions about my truck that I hope you guys can help out with.
First off, I have a hard time hearing the turbo, in fact when I first got the truck I wondered if it was broke. I hear other diesels and you can really hear that whine. Now, maybe it's because it's dampened by the time it reaches the cab, but I thought maybe it was the silencer that I read about on here.
I took my hose off and I was expecting to see a silencer ring or something, but I didn't. Here's the pic of it
My Turbo
I see no ring on there that I can take off.
Also, is this a waste gate?
Wastegate?
I ordered my gauges... is this where I install the EGT?
EGT?
Does anyone want to take a guess as to what this silver pull out switch does? I pull it and nothing appears to happen? After reading this site some, I thought it may be a fan for the tranny cooler, but I don't hear it kick in.
Mysterious switch
And is this the stock tranny cooler? I was under the impression that if I had a cooler under the bed that it was aftermarket, but it seems to fit in this spot pretty good.
tranny cooler
I'm suprise the guy who owned the truck before me didn't install any gauges. He had a fifth wheel in it, and he seemed to take care of the truck (though it is rusty), but I don't think he had any gauges. I would think anyone who does a lot of pulling would install some freakin gauges
Thanks for the input fellas.

The turbo looks like a stock H1C. No it doesn't have a wastegate. It appears to still have the larger 18.5cm2 housing. As far as the switch I would say maybe he had auxillary lighting.

Thats the general area for the egt probe. You wont hear the turbo on a stock truck. After you open up the intake and exhaust you should hear it. Like a BHAF and a straight pipe. A bigger turbo helps too.

Check to see if the mystery switch turns on the reverse lights. That's a pretty common thing on a tow rig - handy to have when hitching up in the dark.
