New weak point.

Went to a drag race yesterday locally and didn't do so good. Built boost at the line and it might have been a little to much, But the drive train went boom. Got her home and tore into it and found the 1 piece input shaft for the transfer case in two pieces. That's a 1 1/4 inch shaft. Now I am trying to find a 23 spline input shaft for an NP 205. They say most of them are 29 spline. And nobody supposedly ever tears them up. Leave it up to me.

It was only ten miles from the house when it broke. Better than the 90 miles that we were friday and saturday racing.

I was always under the impression that the 23 spline input shafts where the common ones and the 29 spline ones where unique to the Getrag G360/NP205 combo.

The 205 in my 78 Chevy has only eight or ten splines, but they are big ones.

more/smaller splines are generally regarded to be stronger arrangement, I think it has something to do with surface area contact?

tks,

The splines that you are refering to are for the standard transmission. Mine is an auto. I have a 205 for a chevy 4 speed but it wont come close.
