New seats!

Anybody retro fit seats in from another truck into the first gens. My truck has a basic bench seat that has 280 K on it and the springs are broke on the driver side and the stiching is starting to come out. Heck, when I bought the truck and it came with a piece of 3" foam to sit on! And I'm still using it. Plus, I would like to find a 60/40 split seat with a folding center console but finding junk yard seats are HARD - especially in winter. there are only three junk yard trucks near me and all of them are trashed by the elements.

So I was curious if anybody has retro fitted a seat from a newer model dodge (or say even a chevy or ford) into these first gens and have had good success. I haven't had time lately to go look at the junkyards myself with a tape measure in hand....

Check my pics. I have a seat from '98 Quad cab in mine. It's a little challenging because the floor profiles are different. But I really like it. The power feature is nice, too.

Micaiahfied also has a similar setup though he built a subframe so he could mount his seat lower.

I really looking for a set of Seats out of a Gen II or a '98ish Super Duty Ford. I drove my brother in laws superduty (V10 trash) the other day towing a boat from my house to his (400 miles), and those seats are pretty comfy, especially compared to the bench seat in my 1st gen.

Don't know how much you want to spend but these look pretty nice and come with a bracket to mount right in the 1st gen. This is what I'm planning unless I get lucky and run into a junkyard special I can't pass up.

The benchseat has been my only ***** about this truck in 10 years.

Thats way way out of my price range! I could do a lot of mods with that type of money!

That is exaclty why I am buildin a center seat/console.. so the truck will still have a middle seat.. I just did not make it yet..

Reason I went with these buckets vers 60/40 was they were FREE..

the dodge seats that i installed in both my truck are technically a 40-20-40 split and work great with a car seat. i have been trying (for more than a year) to do a write up about how to do the 2nd gen seats the way i did. the part i like most about what i did is that you mount them using the original holes in the floor, nothing extra. if you sell your truck and move to a different 1st gen you can pull them back out before you sell. also you can remove the center console without disturbing the other seats. i was thinking of designing a center console that i could swap in. my EXTENDED cab truck may be cool to have an lcd screen with dvd/playstation or something. i've actualy got the rear seat out of a 00QC as well in that one.

Smoke'em,

This is a post I did after I installed them. Do you have Quadcab seats with integrated seatbelts? If so, you'll have to have the inertia controller mounted under the center section.

Well, here's what I've discovered about the seatbelts on the seat out of a 98 Quad Cab. There's a control module under the center section, which I do have, that controls the lock solenoids in the retractor mechanisms. It does have to have power for the belts to work. Here's what the connector, which I thought only supplied power to the power adjusters and seat belt indicators looks like. The seat is NOT heated. I've arbitrarily assigned the numbers to the pins. This is the seat side, looking into the connector:

Code:
--------------------------------------------
  1 2 7 8
                5 6
  3 4 --------------- 9 10
|--------------| |---------------|
With some be-labored internet sluething, I've come up with the pin-out for this connector...I think. Here's what I found:

1. Dark Blue/White - One side of the seat belt indicator - nor sure which side.
2. Tan - Negative Ground Switched supplied by opening the left door
3. Dark Blue - 12v switched from the ignition switch, fused
4. Pink - 12v - constant and fused
5. Black/Light Green - Ground
6. Red/Light Blue - 12v constant with circuit breaker
7. Light Green/Red - Other side of the seat belt indicator switch
8. Light Green/Black - This probably controls a seat belt indicator as well
9. Tan/Red - Negative Ground Switched supplied by opening the right door
10. Black/Pink - Ground

This site was helpful for figuring this out:

stock 1st gen buckets. IHMO they are alot more comfortable than the seats in any of my dads 2nd gen trucks.
I think the front seats in a dodge full size van are very similar.

What a second.... you have a forward facing rear seat in the club cab of a first gen.

Can you post a picture of that! I would love to be able to do that. heated buckets up front with a bench out back that is car seat/booster seat freindly!
