"New" motor for the '89
Well we finally got the '89 all together and running good. I know it is "against the rules" but we built up a '96 p-pump motor for it. It's "basically stock" , 180 pump, 5x16's, drop-in cam, and a head ported by myself. We need/want the RPM's for pulling, and this seems to have done the job. Ended up with a S465 after the unexpected death of a HX52. (see below)
Hopefully we will have a shake down run next weekend.
OOPS! all that junk in my new motor.
The 52 was actually a really nice unit, it spooled quite well. It also has good looking numbers 67/74/16 IIRC, and price. I think it was just "a bad one". I bought it used, and don't know the history on it. I have heard of people beating the crap out of them and not having a problem. The first time I opened it up, she exploded. One definite benefit of the water to air is that it stopped all but the fine dust from getting into the engine.

Looks real good! Bet that will do some damage to the sled this year. My question is..wont you get cold up there in Iowa with no heater? Oh and no fan needed for just pulling down the track, is assume that this is a deticated puller?
Good Luck with the new build and hope it pays off for you, I've fallowed some of your pulling theads.
And I oh so wish that they would get something like that going here in the oven we call home so I could try it.

Thanks for the compliments. I put some time into dolling it up. Learned to polish aluminum in the process, did the valve covers, timing case, intake plate, and the side cover. The chrome looking stuff I powder coated, and we had the manifold ceramic coated.
Somewhere under there is a billet side cover:
It is pretty much competition only now. It does get short trips around the back highways though. Didn't bother hooking the heater up. It has electric fans from a newer Buick behind the grille. That with the GM 3 core rad. have keep it cool very well so far. The stocker was shot and we had this basically new one laying around.
The water to air works good, but burns up a lot of ice.
Andrew, I would like to bring it down there, but we will have to see. Not sure on the schedule just yet.
