new guy with ??
I bought a 93 w250 5 speed ctd 120,000. My question is would a 16cm housing help with turbo lag. If you keep rpms up it runs great but it just seems with my 21 cm it takes for ever to get the turbo to spool up. I have a 2001 six speed ho ctd it might just were I drive it . I know there is alot of difference in 245 & 160 hp but I think that my 93 could pull a little better in the mnts. I dont want a ground pounder I would like just a little more hp. What is your guys thoughts on the 16cm and maybe a little more fuel. This is a great site. Thanks for any help.

Buy the 16cm. It is a night and day difference. The 21 just lets out too much air which causes they turbo to lag, with the 16 it will spool much faster.

the 16 will help with lag but if you turn the pump up you might have EGT issues if you want a big diff. put an hx35w like your 01 on it you can find them on ebay and they work real good

Once you get a pyro, you can crank the fuel quite a bit. I adjust in 1/3-turn increments. The downpipe will have to be shoved back about an inch and a half if you want to run the 12cmw/g housing. If you use the 21 or a 16 it'll bolt right up.

today I found a good used hx-35 turbo and I looked at the casting numbers on my 93 it has a 18cm housing. Would the best thing be use the hx35 and my old 18cm housing.
I ordered a pryo yesterday so when I get my turbo worked out I can start on the fuel screw. Or should I keep what I got and just work on the fuel? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks

Unless someone has already changed the housing the 93's came with an 18.5cm housing.
If that's the case you'll find some improvement in the spoolup but it won't be as big an improvement as going from the 21 down to the 16cm.
As mentioned you can tweak your settings and so forth to improve spoolup a bit more so you'll find the 16 is most versatile housing out there......

ok I think I will go with the Hx-35 I read somewhere on that the w.g on the hx35 might make the truck surge at low end rpm on the 5 speed is this correct if so do I need to block it off the waste gate that is. My 93 has a 18.5 cm sorry about that.

You won't have any surging problems with the HX35. Folks run into trouble when putting just the 12cm wastegated housing on their stock H1C turbo. The compressor side of your factory H1C is not machined to deal with all the extra boost that a modded truck with a 5-speed can/will produce at lower rpms. The compressor side of your new HX35 has what are called 'map-width-enhancement-slots'. They can be found behind the sliencer ring in the inlet of the turbo. Basically, they allow the extra boost that your 5-speed will build when you whack the loud pedal at 1400 rpms to bleed back through to the inlet of the turbo, rather than backing up in the intake piping. In short, you're good to go with the HX35 and whatever housing you put behind it!
