New gauges

I just installed a home made gauge pod for four gauges. The pix don't do them justice so I will try to get better ones in the daylight.

One thing I did notice. My EGT'S are still way outta sight (I let off at 1500*F and still climbing) and I have 38 pounds boost.

I like the Diamond plate. Are those red led's in the main cluster? How do you like them?

The lights in the main cluster are just red bulbs from NAPA. The green bulb condoms have gotten socloudy I just took them out. Here is a pix during the day time. I machined out the box from a solid bar of aluminum. Unfortunately the billet was to shallow for the gauges to be totally consealed on the back back of the box so some wires and tubing is exposed. If I had gone with all electric I would have had a better looking instalation but I don't care for electric gauges.

The LED's in the Phantom II's are very bright and to date I haven't figured out how to deal with it in my face. I wind up turning the dimmer down almost as low as it will go and then I can't read the speedo. I am rethinking the install and will probaby install a pot on a dedicated feed to the gauge pod. I just need to figure out how many ohms I need. Like most things I do I get in a hurry because of other commitments. I need the gauges for a trip Tuesday. I'm picking up a New Holland tractor in Tamaqua PA and delivering it to Surry VA. Round trip is just over 700 miles. I'll be moving out at about 0200 and should be back for supper. The biggest glare is in bright sun. It throws a ghost on the inside of the windshield but it isn't any worse than having a newspaper on the dash.

FYI the stock headlamp switch pot is approx 5 ohms, so something along those lines should work as a aux dimmer.

Autometer now offers a dimmer for the LED's in their guages. Last time I saw one it was $24. With LED's you cannot just reduce the voltage, you have to use pulse width modulated controller. LED's work from a certain turn on voltage and cannot be regulated like a regular filament.

NP - Hey at least Autometer now has the controller, and not that bad of price. I have to get one, I have a set of Cobalt guages that I ran in my previous truck. Man at they bright!
