Question new auto trans, still not so good

hey guys,
just had the trans rebuilt and only have about 50 miles on it. taking it easy, just putting around.
Yesterday, I got on the freeway going up a 3 mile grade doing 60mph, I start losing speed just like when the trans was slipping. gave it more pedal and didn't improve much. turned off the OD thinking, "that outta do it." it actually seemed to lose even more speed.
I'm real inexperienced, so bear with me.
Is there something in the transfer case that could be broken/slipping?
How do i check fluid level in the transfer case?
Any other ideas - rear axle?

Sad situation having this big ol' engine and getting passed by busses and every other thing on the road. The hill's not even that steep and I am running empty.

thanks for your time

Do the RPMs climb when you think it is slipping? Or is it just losing power?

I don't have a tach, but it seems to just lose power going up the hill. turning of the OD changed the rpms and the engine sounded different, but sure didn't feel like a downshift.

no govenor spring. couple thousand dollars and still just trying to get it to go up a hill and slow down the other side. LOL.

My first guess would be the fuel filter. When it starts to get plugged the power falls off fast. More throttle just slows it down more. You could also check the trans fluid. Check it with things warmed up and the trans in neutral.
There isn't anything in the transfer case or diffs that could slip without lots of noise. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your time CrazyBill,
I know the fuel filter needed changing and you got me to get on it. It had been on there long enough that the bushing on the WIF sensor/drain was cracked. Changing it made a little difference going up the same hill.
Some more test driving tells me that 3rd gear is not right.
I have good acceleration in all the rest of the gears, considering I'm just a "doggy" stock truck. OD seems especially good. 3rd just doesn't get the truck moving through the 40-60 mph range. I have to take it back to him for the 2 week check up-see what he says.
Anyways, thanks for motivating me to do one of the most important maintainence items (fuel filter) for an old truck I just bought.

Sounds like a possible lift pump also. You definatly need to get a pressure reading off the supply line from the filter to the IP. I would bet it doesn't even register.

Piston lift pump came in the mail today.
Gonna do Geno's banjo bolt and take Bearkiller's advice and make the fuel pressure guage my first. Also still need to replace the valve gaskets-I have some leaks up there. All that said, 3rd gear ain't right.

haha.. getting rid of the 21cm housing would be a good cheap upgrade. you'll crap yourself when you feel the difference between the "lag master" and a quick spooling turbo.
