New to 1st Gens----question URGENT!!!
I have the opportunity to buy a 1989 Dodge 3500 dually. Its 2wd and longbed/utility bed with a lift gate. It has 39k original miles. BTW---this has no rust. It is an Arizona vehicle. What is it worth? Are these intercooled? Whats the goods and bads about this year? Thanks

what it's "worth" is what someone will pay. 39k original would go for a very large amount on ebay i would think.
what is it worth? 2wd non-ic assuming no rust and decent paint with all the extras i would probably give $4500-$5000 at the most PERSONALLY (and that's much higher than i would usually pay) but i'd say if he wanted to get it on ebay he'd top out $8000 without much trouble. if he doesn't know what he has a truck like that could be found in the $2000-$3500 range IMO (probably not with those miles though)
are these intercooled? no
What are the goods and bads about this year? earlier motors had lager stock injectors, it's it's an auto it's got the 727 which is pretty stout probably 3.07 gear ration. no computer so just an external voltage reg. off the alternator. just look for rust.

I paid 2200 for my 4x4 93. Lots of rust and dents. I *should have* paid around 3g's I think. Just the engine alone is worth 1800-2000. All depends on the condition of the cab. Check for steering play, shouldn't have more than 1/4 of "play". Check for rust bubbles above the windshield. If it has rust above the windshield, RUN! Not an easy fix.
Dont think twice though. I had the chance to get a 89 d350 too, no bed, excellent condition, for 1200. It was gone right after I looked at it!

Unless it has been converted it is not intercooled.

Especially with an '89. IIRC, they only had a 5 digit odometer. So the question would be how many times has it had 39k original miles? Also check and make sure that the odometer works. There is at least one thread a week about how to fix a speedo/odo on these trucks.
