Picked up some clear tubing and a few gallons of diesel today. Hooked the line up to the fuel pump with the fuel sitting next to the drivers side wheel. Started the truck and after 30sec fuel had only made it half way up the line.... Moved the can to up on the cowl and it still never filled the line up. Off to pick up a new pump tomorrow. Will post if it helps.

Try to just put a gravity feed to the High Pressure pump. The Ve will pull enough fuel at Idle and slight rpm's for diag perposes. This will tell you if it's a problem on the high pressure side of the supply side of the system. My money is on supply with air/weak volume. A fuel pressure gauge is a valuable tool for a diesel....Good Luck

Picked up and installed a new fuel pump today. Good news is it pulls fuel right up from the can nice and strong..... Bad news is the truck still smokes and will not rev up without with out shaking and acting like it's being choked out.

Is there any chance that a weak fuel pump could cause damage to the injectors or the injector pump?

The help has been great, more than open on any ideas on where to head.

Thanks, Ryan

200,000 miles showing on the clock. Wish I knew some history on the truck but still trying to track down the last owner that had it in the road.

With the supply issues fixed it is most likely the injection pump. Make sure it's tight and that the match marks on the pump (on the mounting tab you can see) and timing case are lined up.

Had a Cummins mechanic stop by and take a look at it. He felt the timing was off and needed to be bumped up. Also found something is hanging up in the pump. When you start it it idles down way too low, give it a blip of the peddle and it revs up but will not settle down.

Hopefully will have some time to dig into the pump over the next few days and see what I find.
