need assistance right now from all that have done the KDP

I am at the point of having to remove the 1 7/16" fan clutch nut in order to remove the clutch and fan together as an assembly. Any advise on removing? Everything else wants to spin along with the pulley(I still have the drive belt on). Which way does the wrench turn to remove the clutch fan nut, when standing in front of the truck, facing the engine? Clockwise or counter clockwise? I am deep into this thing, and would like to get it done tonight. Please advise, and thanks in advance.

Clockwise to remove. Take the belt off and use a strap filter wrench to hold the pulley. If you can't loosen it by hand, smack the wrench sharply with a 2 pound hammer.

Got it, and thanks. So now that that booger is done, now the 4 capscrews/bolts that hold the fluid damper(crankshaft pulley) which direction am I turning to remove them? Clockwise as the fan clutch bolt? Please advise.

I'm sure that they will be regular thread, so turn them counter clockwise. I havn't checked my KDP yet so haven't done the procedure.

Always- this post from pavement sucks .com says nothing about different thread on the capscrew bolts or the clutch fan nut-in fact, nothing is said about removing the clutch fan nut. Seems like that is an important piece of information to leave out, especially when the topic is geared on assisting people in tackling a task for the first time, such as in my case. Still need to know directions of bolt removal...

well when i read down to the part about removeing it, the thread said nothing about those bolts being left hand thread which if they were i would think they would say something about it but it did say they were really tight. i would think they are just normal bolts because of what they are used for and that they have a bolt pattern not one in the canter.

hopefully the KDP master will chime in as soon as he wakes up from his beauty sleep to clear things up. I ended up calling it a night with my breaker bar and socket attached to the capscrew, awaiting direction.

The fan clutch is the only reverse thread you have to deal with. Everything else is "lefty loosey, righty tighty".

For a kdp job, leave the fan attached to the mount. Simply remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold the mount to the block and remove it as an assembly.

It's a lot easier to get a couple of those bolts with the fan pulley off, though.

This is what I did.. worked great. A slim little 10mm wrench and some busted knuckles seemed a lot easier than taking the fan off.

For the crank pulley, I had a buddy hold the pulley with a pipe wrench to remove the 4 bolts.

Oh, and have fun with replacing the front main seal! The best part of the whole job

To get the fan clutch nut off, I had to rent the wrench kit. I had used a air chisel, BFCW (big fricken crescent wrench), vise, anything but the actual tools. Then when I got the tools, I used my weight and a BFH to try and knock it loose. Know what got it off? A section of 3" exhaust pipe that was about 5ft long. In all the hours I spent busting knuckles and saying a few choice words, it came off in 3 mins.

I hope I helped anyone dealing with this problem.
