properly adjusted drum brakes work great on my 1993... Try getting the stock system to work as designed and see if you need more...
How many of you have tried turning the adjuster on the inner bottom of the drum?
Also, I'd check the for any vacuum leaks as well...
That said, Disc Conversions and hydro boost setups are cool...

Does anybody happen to know what the minimum thickness measurement is for the front rotors on a W350? I'm starting to get a lip around the outer diameter on my front rotors because the brake pads are needing replaced and I might be able to get away with getting them turned if they don't measure too thin. But if not I guess I'll be in for replacing the front rotors and pads. I'd also like to buy quality front rotors that are made in the U.S. if they are still available and at a decent price. Over $150 a piece for a rotor has just about got to be unrealistic!

What would be wrong with facing a too-thin rotor with new steel and lathe-truing it ??

Well the rotors are on, Also put on some $25 a set cheapy non riveted (yea yea) brake pads and its friggin awesome for as little money as it took!!!! , new bleeders and new fluid
the $50 napa rotors said made in china right on them but they were thick as anything and were much much more heavier then the old ones. Looked like a quality peice. NO more WOOM WOOM WOOM and bouncy bouncy when you hit the brakes. Its smooth and quiet now.
I'm gonna get a pic of the old rotors but there was literally a 1/2" wide circle around the rotor where the pads were hitting it, the outter edges of the rotor were so rusty it wore down the pads (rust acted like sand paper).
The rotors had purple/blue discoloration on the inside BAD. and not to mention they are warped badly when you run a micrometer around the rotor.
We had to use our big enerpac press to press the hub out of the old rotors, and the press made pressing the lug studs OUT the old rotors and IN the new rotors very easy, just a few pumps, turn, few pumps, turn... all done.
Drove about 60 miles on them so far. great so far
