My Tranny is Toast...

Well... after one last run... She finally 'burnt up'... She'd slip pretty bad when going 2nd to 3rd but tonight... she would NOT go into third... Then she lost 2nd... so I stopped and shut it off, started it back up, and NOTHING in R, D, 2 or 1. So I figured this wasn't right... I checked the pump... then I checked the tranny... All was fine. So after someone mentioned to check the transfer case I did. Shoved it into 4H... Nothing... into 2H... Nothing... THEN back into 4H and bam she worked. I only had 1 and 2 gears again but whatever. I took it to my uncles tranny shop and that's where she sits.

With that said I want to know the virdict... and what should I get done when I get her rebuilt? What kind of Torque converter and other options?

Mike

I see you've got a plow...I'd go all out for that reason alone, even if it were just a 318 gasser under the hood! If you're going to build it yourself, talk with one of the big shops mentioned on these forums for their suggestions on what parts to replace/upgrade. Otherwise, just send it to 'em and have them go at it. Take advantage of their experience and knowledge with autos behind turned up diesels.

Mikes uncle owns an automatic transmission repair shop , one of the only 2 in town, and as far as i know they do pretty good work there.

Considering guys come from the States to get tranny's built for their hot rods I figure I'm in good hands... I just need some names to go by when I get some upgrades

Ahhh, I see I hear the 89% TC is the way to go for the street. After that, I'm lost---I've chosen to row my gears

Get the DTT 89% TC, VB kit, Billet servo, accum, 4.4 apply lever, strut, anchor, 3rd gear piston(to get 5 clutches) and O/D pressure plate(to get 6 clutches). Call DTT, they can supply all the necessary goodies to beef it up right.

That's what I use when I build a 1st gen auto.

Come on guys, he's not makin 600 lbs.ft. Your talking lots of money for something that doesn't need it. If sure all the guys running DTT's will disagree, but thats comepletely overkill.

If your going to do it, do it once and do it right. And the cost of the parts really isn' that much.

I'm with Fred and the Pastor. Build it right the first time. Then there will be no worries, no matter what HP you run out of money at.

I agree with the lot who say build it up and do it right. If I happen to do some mods I want something that'll hold some power... No sense in turning back and starting over...
