Prosecute Anyway
I was burned on an internet deal to the tune of around $2300. a couple of years ago and tried to get some official and crimminal prosecution going.
The Feds I complained to said the money wasn't enough; a US Attorney needed a fraud for over $50,000 before they were even interested.
I was still hot, so I checked out filing a civil suit on the internet; you can do it! I filed the suit in a civil court in New York City from way over here on the left Coast. Now I had to appear in court (twice) airfare was around $250 round trip.
When I finally got to see the arbitrator and made my case to him, I was awarded the original amount plus interest and expenses, and the guy started paying me. Even if he went bankrupt, he would still have to pay the judgement because a bankruptcy court can't discharge a judgement. The debt will last for twenty-five years, too, if I got it put on his credit report.
You'd probably have to sue the parents of those kids with the Bronco, but I'll bet you would win, especially if the kids admitted it and had to testify.
Mind you, I am not licensed to practice law, the above is only an account of my experience.
Arresting trashy people is a waste of time and effort; suing to make them pay for the damage they cause is real useful. They'll think twice before they
make themselves responsible for thousands of dollars in damaged property again.
Don't get mad, get even.

Man, that is nauseating...
Many years ago, a friend of mine had a lousy 69 toyota corona that was the basic transportationfor about three or four of us who lived in the same house. One night it broke down in a parking lot in front of a christian bookstore of all places. We went back the next day to get it started again, and it was GONE!
Huh? Who would steal a broken down 69 corona? We thought it might have been towed but the strip mall people said that they hadn't towed it, in fact, had never even seen it.
Well, we started walking around the area, and in a wooded area behind the strip mall, there was the car, all the glass broken out, interior destroyed and tires flattened. When we went back a couple of days later with tires, the thing was on its roof, completely smashed to bits, even the eingine smashed up!
We gave up at that point. Later heard that it was jocks from one of the local high schools. Footbal players, from good upstanding families and all that.

That is usually the case with vandalism.
Those kind of jerks get by with anything on account of they can throw a ball.
Why, a good dog can play ball; what's so special about it??

dude sorry to hear about your loss, there are quite a lot of inconsiderate people around any more, and no one wants to take resposability for there actions, just want to have fun at others cost in this case yours , any ways hope you have insurance. don't let them jerk you around on price, it took me a month to try to get a resonable price out of them for my 89 ctd when i rolled it sept. of 06. (state farm) looking for another insurance company now.
hope that you catch them even if not they will be judged in the end.

thats sucks Im sure you want to beat in somebodies head. The closest I ever came to sabotage or theft was that somebody attempted to break in to a truck of mine once and broke the ventvisor, scratched the top of the door paint, and ruined the rubber seal. Just the thought that somebody "attempted" to take my truck had me furious for days. I wanted to police to come get the finger prints off of the side mirror(that you could see easily) but they said they wouldnt be able to run them unless I had an idea who it might be I told them that if I knew that part of the equation they'd need an ambulance here as well

Gentlemen, as angry as you might be and as much as you want to "vent and "rant" I encourage you to chose your words and proposed courses of action carefully. The key is in the lock, be careful not to turn it too far.

i have to agree i have been robbed before and found some of my belonging in friend of a friends shop. instead of saying anything i just kept my mouth shut and warned as many people about him and his buddies. guess what he spent six months in jail shortly there after for theft then got cancer in his ********* and had them removed. and he is still a piece of trash but at least he ain't around that i know of.. i hate to say it but don't do anything that you couldn't live with the rest of your life or do the time for. time has a way of making things even out. ( i still get irritated thinking of my shop being broke into and its been 25 years ago)

Justin,
I'm real sorry to hear about that happening to your truck. It's really a shame that people have no reservations about doing such things. Is the truck still over in the pits?
