My buddies D350 Dually

My buddy has a 93 D350 and I do all the work on it right now it has is 14cm turbo, Bully dog pin with no washer,Tweeked pump,40 horse Delphi injectors and a tighter torque converter. He pulls with it all the time. We run his 5th wheel camper and truck across the scales and his totall pounds was 17,560 lbs and he pulls it at 60 to 65 mph. Do you think it would be a good Idea to install a 3200 spring and advance the timing a 1/8. Will this raise his EGT and drop his fuel mileage. Or will it improve it. He is really good about keeping his foot out of it. He gets about 11 to 13 mpg right now. By the way it has 3.54 rear end. Any advice would be appreciated.

Advancing the timing will help the EGT and fuel economy. The 3200 RPM spring will help with EGT if he winds it up in 4th on hills instead of letting it lug down in 5th.

I would say the "tighter torque convertor" denotes an automatic, but I could be wrong.

In all reality, 11 to 13 pulling a sideways windsail is great, esp with an auto and PODs. Might gain a MPG or so if he went with some 190s or stockers. I pulled a 8x24 box trailer in 2000 and averaged 14mpg, wthh a GCVW of around 15-16K.

I'd recommend a dial indicator, and taking the time to find true TDC (use the timing pin as a guide only). Then you KNOW where it's timed at. On my 91, 1/8" gave me ~2.0mm. On my mom's 92, 1/8" was right around 1.65mm. With PODs, I'd say go to about 1.7, no more than 1.8. With a lesser pop pressure stick, say, around 1.5-1.6. If your EGTs get too high, add more air. High timing is great for hotrodding around empty, but it will kill an engine when towing for all it's worth. Ok, so you will make a million mile engine a 500K engine.

Its a automatic so I guess I will advance the timing around 1.5mm to 1.6 and it sounds like a good idea to put the 3200 spring in. Thanks
