My brother's Getrag growls....how bad and why?
Ok my brother has a truck just like mine, but with the getrag 5 spd and 4.10 rear. when your say in 4th gear and going at like 30-35 with no throttle (basically lugging it) it growls kind of, makes a noise that comes from the tranny. how bad is this and how do you fix it?

If I were to take a shot in the dark I'd say bearings at a bare min. The rebuild doesn't look to bad got the manual on Pdf could send it to ya pm me if you want it. Bearings are around 250 to 300 and the replacement and rebuild don't know as I haven't done it yet... Jethrro

I had one that growled at higher throttle in 4th. Turns out with 4.10s, that is like 1400rpm, a little low in the RPM band for the tranny to be just chipper and happy. Keep the RPMs up and it will increase the life of the tranny as well as extend his rebuild if he has to get one.
Check the fluid level and change it. Overfill by 1-1.5qt, like previously mentioned.
I got bearings & synchros plus an input shaft for $300 and change.
