Build and Drivetrain Swap pics finaly.....
Block painted "Cast Grey", I wanted something different than black. New pistons in, rods final tq'ed, and ready for the pan.
[IMG][/IMG]
The pump Rob Scheid built me, hopefully it'll get me close to STOMP.
[IMG][/IMG]
Look at those purdy pistons... The block is pretty much ready for the head. I'll drop it into the engine cradle tomorrow to install the rear seal and get the clutch assembly back on.
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
Here are the new valve springs next to stock springs.
[IMG][/IMG]
And lastly for now, my wonderful little toy. Kwik-Way valve grinder, guide and seat machine. I'm going to take my time with the head and cut 5 angle valves, port like crazy, and push the flow as far as i can. Hopefully the head will be on and torqued this week.

There is a HUGE trucks only event October 29th at Royal Purple Raceway (baytown). I'm going to try to finish the truck enough to run it, but the body work will have to wait. I've got a ton of work to do and only about 3 weeks to do it.
Anyone else in the Houston area going to make it out?

Nice nice Nice..
that is the EXACT SAME valve grinder we have in the machine shop where i work.....I haven't built a cummins yet hopefully sometime soon.
Something the machinist (wayne) always says is "If at first the seat won't cut, get out the purple stone!". I guess that is like the king of all valve grinding stones. When you are cutting the seats that is, Also the grinding stone you have on the valve grinder has to correlate with the hardness of the valve. I'm not sure with Cummins valves.
Great build I will keep my eye on this, I can only imagine how your wallet is suffering. But it's all in good fun!

I started with that machine when I was 14, building engines in my uncles boat shop. I got my Volvo Penta Diesel Certification at 15. I worked on the series 41's from Volvo that were very simular to the Cummins. Bost I-6, same Bosch VE pump, but made 200hp at 3800rpm redline. It was only 3.6L too. Working on rescue boats with these motors I learned how to "molest" the VE pump. When I was done those boats would leave a steady haze and run 4500rpms.

I'm doing a little bit of a build on my VE motor too as we speak. It's a 12mm H&R VE though that I'm gonna try to tune up myself. I'm hoping for at least 400hp with a locked converter in drive. Injectors will be some 7x.014 tips in my stock injector bodies.
The head won't be ported or anything though. I simply don't have the funds for it.

Yes, 14mm VE but without the 4mm cam plate. Basicaly the same add ons as the 12mm with DV's and 4k gov, but added the 14mm. I just dont trust the 4mm cam plate.
Jklawinsky, sure I'd meet up any time. What area of Houston do you live in? I've seen several first gens around Katy, but dont recognize any from here.

Im up in Huntsville currently for school but come down most weekends. I live N of 10 around Barker Cypress and 529. Probably 15 - 20 minutes from you. You ever need any help with anything, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
