Lightbulb More Headlight Relay Options

I have found out how to make the DIMs remain on with the BRIGHTs, without the need of a third relay.

This method keeps the DIMs constantly ON, instead of the split-second gap in continuity caused by the dimmer-switch breaking the current between settings, which should make both the dimmer-switch and the light-elements last longer.

This entire modification can be done inside the cab, with no extra wires through the fire-wall.

Tap a wire into the existing wire between the head-light-switch and dimmer-switch; this is the wire that is HOT at all times that the head-light-switch is ON, regardless of dimmer-switch position.

Route this new wire through a switch, so that the function of BRIGHTs and DIMs together is a switchable option.

From this switch, route the wire to the DIM head-light wire on the down-stream side of the dimmer-switch and tap into it.

Wired thus, with the head-light-switch ON, and with the BRIGHTs/DIMs together switch in the ON position, the DIM beams will remain constantly ON, regardless of dimmer-switch position; operating the dimmer-switch will merely turn the BRIGHTs ON and OFF, without the split-second loss of power to the lights caused by the break-over of the dimmer.

Lightbulb Intermittent Hi-beam Flash

To be able to flash the high-beams, without messing with the headlight-switch, tap a wire into the existing HOT wire that is upstream of the headlight-switch; route this wire through a spring-loaded "intermittent" switch, conveniently located for quick easy access; from this switch, route the wire to the BRIGHT headlight wire, downstream of the dimmer-switch and tap into it.

Wired thus, with the headlight-switch OFF, the hi-beams can be temporarily LIT, or FLASHED, by working the intermittent switch.

When the headlight-switch is OFF, actuating the switch will FLASH the hi-beams.

When the headlight-switch is ON, and the lights on DIM, actuating the switch will FLASH the hi-beams.

When the headlight-switch is ON, and the lights on BRIGHT, actuating the switch does nothing.

To gain the ability to flash the lights OFF, a second "constant ON-intermittent OFF" switch would need be spliced into the main headlight-switch HOT wire, such that it BREAKs the current to the headlights when the switch is actuated.

There are switches available that combine both functions in one self-centering switch.

Lightbulb Automatic Fog-lights / Driving-lights

To make the fog-lights, or driving-lights, or both, automatically switchable by the dimmer-switch, route a wire from the HOT side of the MANUAL fog-light switch to RELAY-terminal-30; route a wire from RELAY-terminal-87 to the COLD side of the MANUAL fog/driving-light switch (this wire can also be spliced into the fog-light wire, downstream of the manual switch; either choice performs the same function); tap a wire into the BRIGHT wire, downstream of the dimmer-switch; route this wire to a seperate "automatic auxilliary lights" switch; from this switch, route a wire to RELAY-terminal-86; ground the relay.

Wired thus, the "automatic auxilliary lights" switch can be turned ON, and the MANUAL "auxilliary lights" switch OFF, selecting BRIGHT on the dimmer-switch will turn ON the auxilliary lights; selecting DIM will turn them off, so that oncoming traffic will not be blinded.

The MANUAL switch will turn the auxilliary lights ON, regardless of headlight setting.

As many automatic functions as desired can be wired thus, such as fog-lights, driving-lights, and spot-lights, selecting any one, or any combination, or all at once, so long as each seperate set of lights has a switch and relay.
