Metal shavings on drain plug
Hey guys. Just finished an oil change and there were small metal shavings on the drain plug, mushy consistency almost like wet sand I guess. And one metal sliver maybe 3/16 long. I dipped my finger in the oil and it doesn't look glittery, and I didn't see anything stick to my magnet besides what was on the drain plug. There were also two scars on the magnet if the drain plug, one pretty small like just a simple and the other a fair sized scar. I'm expecting its nothing, but I just got back from a 600 mile round trip through the mountains, and on the way home I was getting paranoid about my oil for some reason so I pulled over about 30 miles from home and checked my oil and everything seemed fine. Small leak from timing cover and from rear main.
I'm sure it's nothing and I apologize for the long post, but after being so freaked out about it last night on my way home I had to ask. 7k since last oil change. Uploaded pictures from scars on plug.

You should be fine, there is always a small amount floating, and someone has put a magnetic plug in there to catch it. Most of us run stock plugs and blindly just drain the small metal particles into the catch pan when we change the oil........

I have a magnetic drain plug on some of my trucks and there is a small amount of fine metal "sludge" that is on the plug when I change the oil.
Not to worry.

I figured it was nothing, I just couldn't help it. Another weird thing, a couple of times yesterday when I first take off after start up I heard a squeak noise, nothing really annoying, about the same noise that these trucks make when you turn them off. I just don't get why it only did it right when I was taking off?

Mine started "chirping" before the water pump went south.

It'd be odd on an auto, but I would check the crank end-play. I had a little burst of shavings when the main thrust bearing failed. I put a bar on the ring gear, and it was obvious that the thrust face had fallen off the bearing.

I'm putting in a new water pump when it gets here on Monday, but since it has stopped making the chirping noise. Another thing to throw out there, when I was going through the mountains my truck would blow a little smoke when going up hill and under heavy acceleration. But halfway home it stopped smoking, and the truck has recently starting to feel sluggish. Would this indicate a failing VE pump? Also feels like the truck shakes more when in park or stopped.
Sorry for the late response.

Yes sir, it was the first thing I did to the truck. Ill be pulling the timing cover off some time this week to replace the crank seal, so I can check over everything again.
Happy Easter everybody.
