If you ever plan to change rims...I have 36x12.5 on my stock height truck. It just required trimming a little rust off. When I turn full right the tire just rubs the drag link joint. I think that I will try to loosen the stop and adjust it out a little.

I'm running 285/75 on stock rims and they seem to ride fine. I have them aired to about 65psi, they flexed a little bit too much for me on the sidewall at lower settings. They rubbed a little when I turned all the way to the right, but after a 2" lift in the front, they have no problems

I have 285/75r16 on my 8 inch rims and the truck is stock height, and I tow a 24 foot race car trailer and a stock trailer also go hunting in some heavy four wheeling areas with no problem at all, no rubbing.

265, 285 etc.. is the width correct, well i want some wider tires than stock, but i dont want them 3 inches outside the wheel well, what is the best size tire to fill up the well, maybe stick out an inch past width wise?

I have 285's on 8" rims, my suspension is stock and sagging in front and they don't rub, but they are close. My truck isn't an LE either, no plastic trim around the wheelwells. I've also had 265/75's and 235/85's(stock size) on the stock rims, just fine. I've found on car, truck, drag slicks that going with a wider rim really improves traction, handling, treadwear, etc. The tires don't "look" as big because they're not bulging, but they work better IMO.

I'm running 315's, but the rims are not stock. No rubbing at all.

Ok sorry to bring an old post up.

I'm planning to pick up some Toyo Open Country M/Ts later on this year and I'm looking to go with 285/75R16 on the stock rims. From what I've read in this thread, some guys say they work fine and others say that with the stock rims they don't handle well. How do you guys mean they don't handle well?

I want to get rid on the pizza cutters I have on now .

I have the same tires/size you noted on stock rims. I have no complaints about the ride and they also do great when I've the travel trailer hooked up.

My only complaint is that the tires seem to be wearing quickly but that's not really a ride issue.

With stock rims, the center tend to arc so the wear happens greatly on the center. I am getting 285/75/16's but I am also gonna get a set of Eagle 058's that are 7" wide vs the 6" on the stocks.
