Majic Paint

I picked up some majic paint from tractor supply and sprayed the bottom of my cab with it. It's a oil based paint that has some sort of rust protection in it. I'm wondering if I messed up. I sand blasted the cab to metal and I think I should have applied por15 on that. I can't find anything on majic paint so I'm not sure if it's a good choice.

The paint seems very durable now that it's on there. Anyone have any experience with this paint?

Thats a pretty cheap paint. not something i personally would have put on my truck itself.
That being said, i rolled it on to my camper shell (old school style aluminum) and it turned out very nicely. Matched my truck pretty well too. Its stayed on very well although its been sitting on the shelf for over a year now.

I decided to leave the paint on there. I did some shrinking of some floor pans last night and taking this paint off was much harder than I thought. When the wire wheel hit it, the paint sort of turns tacky and when the heat is off it is a very hard paint. I'll hit the rest of the cab with 2k paint but the under carriage I think this will work well. I think this was designed to be abused so it seems like it was a good fit for the bottom.

I'm going to hit the cab with undercoating as well so I have the protection there.

I watched the videos and I would have to agree, given enough time this stuff is very good. The only thing I've been reading is that it fades. When you painted your cap, did this happen? Although yours has been in the garage.

I won't buy paint from TSC, Orschlen's, or an A&I or Tisco dealer if I want it to last, unless they've got a known brand on the shelf. Tisco/Central Tractor/Riverside Tractor Parts IHC red was known to turn orange within a couple years of repainting the tractor, even if it was only out during the summertime.

Maybe the paint has not had enough time to cure properly, RustOleum does this if you try to remove it too soon.

I called Majic cause I was curious. The paint is designed the same way they did it in the 1930's. Instead of using lead, they found that soy bean oil has the same durability and doesn't break down when it dries(not sure how true that is being a oil). The rust treatment (stuff I have on mine now) remains rock hard on top but porous to the metal underneath.

As for the fading, they said it needs to be sealed with their Lacquer clear coat or the UV will fade the paint. I'm not a painter so I'm not sure what that all means. Since this is on the bottom of the cab.. I'm not to worried about it. He also mention that a lot of people don't mix the catalyst which will cause the paint to remain tacky. I did mix mine and it is very rock hard.. buut.. maybe high heat causes the oil to react?

I'm going to run it, see how well it holds up in any event. Not much about this stuff, it's made in the USA so how bad can it be?!?!
