Luber-Finer

I finally got my Luber-Finer dribble filter on the truck, not withought problems. I made a bracket that bolts on top of the passenger side radiator support and the filter can is located just to the side of the radiator. When I fired up the engine and the can filled up, it started squirting out of the cannister lid. I guess the 50 year old gasket was a little flat. I was covered with black oil spots! I cleaned it all up and (after cleaning the gasket with rubber rejuvinator) augmented it with RTV. Now all seems to be well.

I will clean it up and take pictures on the install if enyone is interested.

Yeah Mark, I'd like to see it! I'm into bypass filters big time. Got 'em installed on all our vehicles.

It's just an auxiliary oil filter can. Mine holds almost a gallon. Most people seem to be running TP aux filters, but mine has an element I get from a local Freightliner shop.

By the way, my fancy bracket broke and the filter is now temporarily being held on by piano wire!

I need to get an argon tank and a spool of aluminum wire for my little mig..

SO far I haven't noticed a change in the oil color density, but I imagine once the larger pores in the filter get some soot in them the filter will start filtering the finer particles.
I need to get a new gasket for the oil filter tube because the oil is squirting and causing a leak!!
Hopefully I can get the bracket fixed today because I am sick of the "redneck wire mount" look (sometimes my roots betray me).

I have a problem with my bypass filter setup. For some reason the oil drain going into my fill tube is causing an oil leak at the base of the tube where it threads into the adapter. It's tight, but it's leaking at speed and splattering. Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

Have you tried using teflon thread sealant tape? If that doesn't work, Permatex thread locker usually does the trick.

Is it possible my vent tube is clogged? Does this ever happen on these trucks?

I'm having trouble visualizing exactly what connection you're talking about now.

I don't think that connection was designed to be exposed to a continual oil bath. Why not pick a valve cover and dump it in there?

it was a suggestion from someone on the site (and I thought a good one) because you can easily see the condition of the filter.

I think I will pull the tube and hit the rubber gasket with rubber rejuvinator, and silicone it if I have to....

I got my oil filler tube leak fixed finally, it's dry as a bone even after some thrashing, but now that the engine is clean I noticed that I have a leak around the timing gear cover as well as a prett good diesel leak on the top of my old lift pump. I don't know if I have the fortitude to do the timing case gaskets, unless I can split the rear gasket at the top and feed it around the loosened case without pulling the timing gears. It would afford me the opportunity to advance the gear timing one tooth though....

I have been putting off the lift pump swap because it's so tight back there, but I guess I gotta do it now.... I have all the stuff and two new piston pumps!

Anyone have any thoughts on doing the timing case gaskets?
