Ok here's the deal. I'm going to be receiving a 1992 3/4 ton diesel, ex. cab, manual transmission. Truck's in good shave other than needing some paint and a headliner, just had front end redone with new ball joints and bushings a couple months ago and its got between 250K-270K miles on it. It's my dad's and he said I could have it after he gets his next vehicle (might be a month or two). Anyway the heaviest thing I haul is a motorcycle and I don't drive more than 6-7K miles a year at the moment so I'll probably have it for a while. Anyway mods I'm thinking is Tachometer and maybe other gauges. Anything like the Quadzilla that will work with the 1st gen? Also what about exhaust? I'm thinking flowmaster or stacks, or just something that sounds good. What other mods can I do to improve gas mileage and the ride? I'm not to worried about power as I don't tow much. Just want a smoother ride and better mileage.

 

Not much you can do to smooth out the ride. Skyjacker soft ride springs help a little but it is still harsher than a 2nd gen or later. Quickest way to better mileage is taller tires and a Gear Vendors overdrive. I see 20mpg highway unloaded, with 4.10 gears. What gears in it? Someone here should know what was available, probably either 4.10 or 3.55.

 

I don't know what gears are currently in it and probably wont have a chance to check until I get it.

None of the electronic chips or boxes work with these. Everything is mechanically controlled! Which most of us love! Check out "The Sticky" at the top of the thread list. Theres directions etc... on how to turn up the fuel on the injection pump aka give you more power. First thing to do though, before you turn up anything, is get a boost guage and a pyrometer so you can keep an eye on everything happening inside your engine. Welcome to the first gen ram!
