A Little Help Please

Let's try this again...tried to post before, but the hotel login canned it all....Anyway-

I need some help with a 1st Gen.
Its a 92, think it was the first yr with the intercooler
Garaged
About 70k on the od
Manual tranny
always serviced per the Dadge manual.

My mother in law uses this as her primary vehicle since dad passed.
She called today to say that it is acting up.

She started it two days back and headed for town. She said she thought it was in 5th instead of 2d, and headed off. She said it kept gettin sluggesh.

Yesterday she fired it up to head out and again she thought she put it in 5th, but looked and it was in 2d and just didn't want to go.

She also said that at about 35mph there is white smoke out of the exhaust.

I get back into town this weekend and intend to look at the fuel filter, hose clamps and maybe the Tstat.

Temps when this happened were in the high 20s to 30s. Garage was about 45.
Anyone have suggestions on what the problem may be??? I could use the help on this one.

Thanks in advance.

You are on the right track with the fuel filter. Sounds like it's about plugged solid.

yes, and the colder weather could have amplified this problem. It sounds like either air or just plain plugged filter. I replaced mine once and thought I had a new pickup!!

It's very easy. It's a spin-on filter just rearward of the throttle linkage. There's a WIF sensor in the bottom of the filter with a quick-connect electrical fitting. Unhook that fitting and remove the WIF sensor once the filter is removed and drained. All associated o-rings should come with the new filter. There's a little square cut o-ring on the nipple that sometimes comes down with the filter and sometimes doesn't. You'll see it in the kit. Just don't install the filter w/two.

Is this an easy filter to find parts wise?? I don't see them on Genos' site. I'll check the local dealer here in NC before I head out.

Stickies

I've been told this many times here.................check the "stickies" at the top when you first log in. Tons of information.

There are 3 bolts/nuts to get the throttle set up out of the way whick makes it a whole lot easier and the filter more accessible.

Good luck

Thanks to all. The truck runs great.
I had to buy a wrench for the filter and the nipple for the heater came of with it. I just put the nipple back in, swapped the sensor out and put the new filter on.

I never knew Dad to buy Dodge parts, and my mother in law hadn't known him to buy at Dodge.
If that is correct, then it had what looked like a 17yr old filter on it.........I'll never know.

Anyways, thanks again for the help guys.
