Limited slip diff
What was the factory option for the Limited slip differential. In the past the vehicles equiped with spicer/dana axles tended to have a Power Lok or a Track Lok (the crappy jeeps that I have owned and own now), Is this the same for the cummins as well. I figued that I could get away without having it right away but I need to get someting sooner than later. Thanks Jethrro

Limited slip additive
I changed my differential fluids to synthetic 75-90. Don't I need to add a friction additive for the limited slip to function properly.

Some gear oils already have it added. If you don't have any additive in there and it's not making crunchy noises on tight turns, the clutches are probably shot. Not a big deal, they are about $50 and a few hours work to replace.

When I rebuilt mine and took it for a ride to see how much more additive it wanted, it was pretty crunchy until I dumped in the rest of the bottle. I used half the bottle soaking the clutches before the build. After I dumped the rest in and did a few more figure 8's, it quieted down nicely. The additive actually helps the clutches slip easier, so the less you have to run to quiet the diff, the better.

The trucks were avalable from the factory with power-lock rears, but the 3.08 carriers are no longer made. They were a special Dodge only part. Unless you can find a factory 3.08 power-lock rear, you are SOL. AFAIK your only option is the setups that fit inside an open diff and convert it to an LSD.

So they did make a 3.08 with LSD, did they?
Could any of you fine gentlemen tell me how to tell if a truck has one on it?
Is there a way to tell from the VIN number?

It will say on the build sticker under the hood, and also on the ID tag on the rear. Look for the letters "LS" after the ratio.
AFAIK, you can't tell that from the VIN.
