Limited Slip Additive Quantity
I got my Dana 70 rear end rebuilt 4 months ago. It started to make that grinding noise and feeling about a month ago or a little more. It has gotten a little worse over time and I finally realized where it was coming from so I took it in to the shop that rebuilt it before the warranty ran out and the rear died again.
They concluded that my suspicions were accurate, that it is my limited slip. They asked if i put additive in it when I refilled after they rebuilt and I said yes, 1 bottle. He said that I should have put 2 - 2.5 bottles in and that it will be about $500 to fix the limited slip clutch. I am wondering if they did not do a good job of rebuilding or if it is my fault.
How many bottles of LS additive are you supposed to put in the rear?

Even with no LS additive it will not tear up the clutches, it will just be noisy and jumpy when making tight corners. 1 bottle is enough unless the diff is really tight. If it's noisy on 1 bottle, you add more. You actually want to add as little as possible to make the LS more effective. Mine is doing well after a year and a half on one bottle.
When is the rear making noise? Only on turns or when going straight? The LS unit will only make noise in corners. If it's grinding when going straight, it's not the clutches.

It started just on corners slightly and I was not sure what it might be. It has progessively gotten worse, especially with a trailer in tow. It really grinds bad while turning with the trailer. I can hear a slight whining and a bit of vibration while driving straight now. Of course, it gets worse as speed increases. Around 50 it seems to start where you can feel something is not right.

Clutches would not cause any noise when going straight. Take a look in my gallery at the pics of my old clutches - the only symptom of that was a lot of slack in the driveline. I think the shop is trying to weasel out of the warranty any way they can.
