lift pump for 91 D250

What is a good lift pump for a 91 D250? I don't need real high performance, just reliability. What brand? Where can I get it? What PSI is needed in this truck? Please help.

Mahalo.

The plain old stock diaphragm-pump puts out from 4- to 7-psi and is okay for a while.

If you want genuine reliability, then go the extra dollars and install the 3936320 piston-lift-pump, good for between 12- and 20-psi, absolutely bullet-proof, reliable, and does not have a diaphragm to rupture and start pumping fuel into the crank-case.

There is all kinds of good information on installing the piston-pump in the "stickys" at the top of our page.

Let's not get anyone too confused.

The 2nd Gen. pump is #3936316 and must be pressure-regulated ahead of a Bosch VE injection-pump.

The #3936320 does not require a regulator or any fancy plumbing.

Might as well hook these brothers up with the full tilt...

I wouldn't call extra parts and plumbing the real road to reliability.

Wannadiesel, wasn't it you that was running a case pressure gauge and trying to figure how inlet pressure on the VE worked related to case pressure or something like that?

JD730 has a case pressure gauge.

For a stock truck a stock type lift pump is fine. I ran a Delphi brand unit for a little over a year with no trouble, I think they are still under $50 shipped from usdieselparts.com. Unless you are running something bigger than POD's, the low pressure piston pump is a good upgrade.
