Or I might leave them out as I would need to hone it and it might be a size over. Now I need to go find some badges in the barn because some a$$hole stole mine.

I had to use a 12"cheater to break mine lose, and bent the pipe doing it. Other than that it's an easy job. It's the biggest allen wrench I have ever seen.

Well, both sides of my hubs on the front were hot... I could leave my hand on it for about ten seconds and it was too hot to touch. Something isn't right, did I roast the bearings?

Good chance you have the wheel bearings set too tight. I usually tighten them up then back off a quarter turn and then tighten to the closest pin hole on the lock ring, then install jam nut as tight as possible.
