Killed by the killer Dowel Pin
Well, today I got killed by the killer dowel pin. Motor is trash. What is involved in swapping a 1994 and later motor in? can I use my existing computer and sensors and just swap it all to the P pump motor?

What exactly do you mean by "Trash"? The damage from a KDP typically takes out the front externals (gears & cover) on our engines. On the rare occasion it will crack a block. Unless you bent a camshaft or crankshaft, or cracked the block, the fix is pretty straight forward.
Others feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

yeah pretty straight forward other than a lot of work to get the camshaft out. Thats what cummins recommends, however I believe some people have been able to pull the gear off the cam, so that saves a lot of work!

Iv'e read quite a few threads on this kdp. Is this something that needs fixed on all 1st gen. trucks ? Sounds like this is serious.

YES!!!!! Fix it NOW before it bites you in the rear. I was of the mentality of "it hasn't happened in the last 214,000 miles, it must be OK." Wrong. Now I am looking at a lot of repairs. I just paid 6500 for the truck 8 months ago, so I am going to fix it. IT is just a matter of how I fix it. Whether I swap in a P-pump motor, or go with a VE again.

I would swap to a p-pump motor... I'm sure you can find a decent one for between 1500-2k... Then sell some of the good parts you had on your Ve motor to help pay for some of the cost... Or find a ve motor, but I think they will be pretty close in price... If it isn't much more, I would step up to the p-pump..

Pretty much, I didn't even use a longer bolt... Making the tab requires a little pain, It has to have a little bend in it... But, ya new gasket and a fresh seal.. I used RTV instead of the gasket... No leaks for me..

Thats what I thought. 265K and no problems. Then the front main started to leak a bit so I figured why not. Pulled the cover and the pin was still in its place. Didnt look like it had moved but I tabbed it anyway and pulled all the timing case bolts, loctited them and put them back in. Peace of mind.
Sorry for your loss. Can you see any visible carnage? If so post pictures so others can get the hint to do it before its too late...
