How often does the kpd pop out on a 1st gen????? I have only heard of a few cases. When RickD did the kpd fix on my truck, my pin had moved out quite a bit.

My pin was solid in there, but considering Wannadiesel did mine FOR FREE I am still glad to know that is one thing about which I do not have to worry!

From what I've read it's not a BIG concern on the first gens because of the timing belt and gears if I remember right. On 2nd gens the gears are more in the way and what not. But yes they're there without a shadow of a doubt. I'd like to do mine but considering it'd be my first time in... I'd probably need a good weekend to do so.

It's not as common on 1st gens as 2nd gens, but it can happen.

Your kidding right??
I bought this stupid thing thinking that they were bullet proof! NOw I am seeing that not only do they problems with the fuel ststem but with a dowel pin as well?? I have heard of this on the 1st gen as a local shop here offers a solution and advertizes in the papers in this area; but your saying it is even a bigger issue with the 2nd gen?? DANG< DANG< DANG!!!! What exactly is this and when is it prone to fail?? What happens if it fails?? "Killer" doesnt sound like it is a good thing!!! How do I fix this before it happens and what should I expect to pay?? Guess I should have done a little better research!!

Read that thread and the two threads it links you to. I think the NWBombers have a travelling jig, fixing it that way is no big deal.

I know these trucks are considered tough but NOTHING is bullet proof and/or perfect. Sure there's the odd fault but there's some running 300K miles with their dowel pin still in tact and as for the fuel system... some are running 600hp+ on a VE pump. I see little to no fault in these trucks and even when there is it's not a large issue. Point being though... you're not likely to find a truck as tough as one of these. Definately a bang for the buck if you're looking for reliability

CSAgrey1 no need to worry you have a 24 valve they do not suffer from KDP droppings. Now the lift pumps you do have that claim to fame.

IIRC 24v's also have the problem up to 2001 (i think) model year. I think Dodge started phasing out the old style timing gearcase in 99, but there were a few newer ones with it too.

The newest truck I've seen the old gearcase in was a '99. If the build date is after 8/99 don't sweat it. I don't do '00 trucks any more.

Thumbs up

Wanna jigged my KDP before the truck was mine, I had an opportunity to "examine" his work when I replaced the front crank seal ...NOT...just kidding . Wanna did a superb job of fixing the pin, I had even removed the set screw just to be sure the pin was good and it was bottomed out in the bore but I gave it a good staking for good measure. If it were me I would`nt lose any sleep over it, just put it on the list of things to do if you ever have the front cover off.

A fella from your neck of the woods, screen name is dogoman (Bob), IIRC he hails from Gap.
