Are you talking about the fuel pre heater that is sandwiched between the filter and the motor?
Yes. That can be a place where you get air leaks. It can be tightened up as well, and also has a gasket above it that might be almost 30 years old.
It can also be removed and a shorter threaded nipple can be installed that you just screw your fuel filter on to.
Like I said a week or two ago, it sounds like you have an air leak in the fuel system problem, more that a lift pump problem.

I think your right. I just started with the lift pump. I e checked all connections and all fuel lines. I sprayed the entire drivers side down with brake cleaner twice. That’s when I noticed the fuel filter was dripping. I’m gonna pull the filter back off tonight and have a better look.
Remember that from the LP to the fuel tank is under suction when running so it will leak AIR into the line, but not diesel fuel out of the line. So most times there is no wet spot on the connections to see.
It makes it hard to trouble shoot an air leak by just looking at things.

I can see diesel fuel on the side of the block and the filter itself is wet. I’m gonna delete it one day this week. If the wind isn’t blowing 60 miles an hour this afternoon I’ll post some pics. I’m about 99% sure that’s where it’s coming from

Just thought I’d update what’s up with the truck. I got the fuel preheater deleted today finally. Also stumbled across a used turbo. Went ahead and ordered some ducky injectors. 5x13. Got he hvlp on also. Truck runs really well. Boost is a lot better and it will actually move out of its own way. Took it down the highway for a couple of miles and itt doesn’t stay on boat but is pretty close. Just a little pressure with the right foot and it moves out really well. I was afraid to pass with it but now it has enough power to pass with confidence. I need to take some low end fuel out of it but I’ll get to that tomar. Also went ahead and put a diamond eye 4 inch on. I’ll try to get some pics tomar when I get home from work. I have one injector leaking a little so I’ll have to pull it and clean the hole to get it to seal. I’ll be leaving Wyoming at the end of next week. Curious what the fuel mileage will be. I’m really considering putting the 1990 rear end under it when I get home. It’s a 3.07 gear with a factory powertrax in it.
Not completely bolted up in this pic
I fixed the waste gate hose.

How does the down pipe fit with the different style of the outlet on the back side of that newer turbo?
I would guess your MPG will be about 18, maybe a bit better depending on you right foot, speed and your fuel adjustments.
Swapping to 3.07 gearing would help with MPG, but hurt your new found passing power.
