Just Curious - How much $$ do you have in your truck?

how much?
I bought my truck in 2001 for $11k. 3 years ago put $2400. for clutch and new synchros. $500. for 6 tires. $300. for brakes all around. $100. for misc. stuff. I need hinges, steering shaft, tires, and a rebuild for my transmission, (CD player also). I'll put the money into this truck because one time I added up the cost of all the money I've spent on others cars/trucks since 1993 and I'm still $20,000 away. I would have spent $20k less and my truck would be in better condition if I'd have it new. My point is that my truck has NEVER left me stuck, even while driving from Nc. to Pa. with the input shaft sreaming all the way! Rich ps. yesterday I had another offer to buy my truck

Here is what I have invested in my truck, these are just round figures and there are a lot of things that are not included or I forgot.
$17,000.00 I paid for the truck in 1999, I got $8,000.00 from State Farm for my totaled Chevy 6.2 diesel truck to put towards this price.
$1,200.00 first set of tires.
$200.00 rims.
$500.00 complete interior including seats, carpeting, headliner.
$200.00 new front coil springs.
$200.00 front suspension parts.
$200.00 Front and rear brakes and calipers. Now have a free replacement so they don't cost to replace.
$250.00 gauges
$300.00 150 amp alternator conversion.
$475.00 main and auxiliary batteries including 8-D.
$1,700.00 3000 watt inverter (from last truck.)
$1,200.00 transmission rebuild.
$4,700.00 bodywork and paint job. (paid by State Farm).
$500.00 Banks exhaust system.
$150.00 Sure Power separator.
$120.00 LED lighting.
$350.00 Unity spotlight & 1,000,000 CP collins head.
$100.00 Silver Star headlamps and control 4 relays 1 for each filament.
$200.00 Pintle hitch and mount.
$1,200.00 second set of tires.
$200.00 stereo/CD.
$30,945.00 total
This does not include service or consumables like oil changes, oil and fuel filters, Freon, coolant changes or thousands and thousands of gallons of diesel fuel to drive over 200,000 miles.
Or the many hours from lying on my back under the dash wiring the truck or the many feet of welding cable for my batteries.
Planed real soon things I must have:
New tires (all 6) next week.
Turbo upgrade.
Injectors.
Rear springs.
This was spread out over the years although the transmission did come close to Christmas time.
I know it is allot of money, I could have bought 2 houses in 1974 for this much, but I like my truck and it is almost perfect.
It is solid and drives like a rolling rock and I will survive almost anything that hits me.
Everyone I see makes a complement about it and that makes me feel good.
The only other truck I will someday own is going to be a HMMWV, I have always wanted one. But someday.
But if someone said they would trade me for a Hummer, no way they are junk.

I now have 6 new Bridgestone tires under it so now I feel a bit more at ease driving the freeways.

I bought my truck one year ago for $6500 Canadian. It had 20,800 miles on it at the time.
3200 RPM spring $20
Pump tweeks free
The body and the interior look new so I won't be spending any money there
The truck had a tach and a pyro. Enough gauges for now
Planed upgrades This winter:
Larger rad ~$500
Transmision temp gauge $75
Planed upgrades down the road:
torque converter. ~$500
shift kit ~$75
All in all I expect this truck to give me many years of great service, for a reasonable price.

$800 purchase price.
$500 in front end rebuild
$450 EH injectors with new tips
$450 HX35-14WG turbo
$600 Dana 80 axle and wheels
$400 4 new tires- need 2 more for front
$250 on misc parts and stuff to make it drive smooth-ish, including a bad alignment at Snider's Alignment in Cape Girardeau; $100 for bearings after g/f's shop failed to tell me the hubs werent cleaned out after turning rotors.
FREE reshim Getrag
Trade HX35 for injector pump rebuild- I keep the 14 housing, put H1C back on.
Truck needs paint & windshield, and I will probably keep an eye out for cheap 2nd Gen 40-20-40 seats, or good 1st Gen captain's chairs for it, so add $1500.
I will have everything up to snuff for <$6000. Less than a year's worth of payments on even a 2nd gen (much less a new one), and it will run better and get better MPGs.

Nobody should feel bad about what they have into their trucks. Spending the money on upkeep and performance is easily justified when the truck is payed off and there is no warranty left to worry about. People that mod can't stop so buying a new one is going to mean a payment of $600-$700/mo and you'll still have to find the money to mod somewhat. Vehicles are always more fun when they're payed off.

Around 45K, with the bed, bed liner, winch, chip, gauges, exhaust, intake & exhaust brake. Add another 20K in the two trailers that are goosenecks (can't haul 'em without a truck...).
Is there a 12 step program for EBAY ? Maybe a ten step program (1 finger = 1 step) - mittens with duct tape ? I'd probably put a pen in my mouth and punch in a bid......

As for the $$$ into it, regular service and preventative maintenance are up there, I am not quite sure though I would guess $1000-$2000 range.
- 12x tires @ about $120 apiece = $1440 (remember its DRW, and when I got it first thing I did was tires) [guess this could be added/included in maintenance]
- Gauges: Pyro & Wiring & Probe $180; Boost & Wiring/tubing $70; Pod $25
- Straight pipe, Chrome tip, Tail pipe repair: $80
- Gear Vendors OD unit: Was on truck when dad bought it, though after a little research I found these are about $3000
- Audio: Pioneer CD deck $120; Amp, Sub, & box $300
That is all for now, though the rig needs body work and paint done, and I plan on upgrading the turbo, injectors, likely replace the stock exhaust with a 4" straight pipe or possibly stacks. I mean at this point the truck is practically stock
I would not rule out that by the time this next phase is complete I will have dropped probably $2-3000 more into it. A well spent drop though

Just bought a CHERRY guys...1993 D250 4x4 EX-cab w/ 70k on the clock. How much is too much for this truck? Has all the options and mostly bone stock with the exception of some mud flaps and overload bags on the rear springs. Maybe some of you gurus can give me some feedback on what to look out for and potential problems with this truck. Thanks in advance.

I have a 1992 standard cab, 5-speed, 4x4..
I paid $1500 for the truck
and I have about $1000 in the truck
new parts include:
Inj pump rebuild, power steering pump, master cylinder, lift pump, straight exhaust, new interior i put in
parts bought but not put on yet :
new bed, fenders, hood.
most of what i have done can be seen here:
http://www.impaks.com/dodge92w250.asp
so I have about $2500 in it and I am guessing when i have new body parts and paint done I will have close to $4000 in the truck..maybe less if i pinch pennies..

I bought it last month for 2000 dollars.
I did gauges for about 300
I have about 800 dollars worth of new stuff sitting on the bedroom floor (see sig)
I have 600 worth of stuff on order from Piers.
Next week is injection pump rebuild and a bunch of other stuff (KDP, radiator cleanout, intercooler boots, tensioner, etc... Figure 1500 for all of that.
Still better than the 500 a month I was paying for my 2002 Dodge. I'll never own anything with an electric lift pump or VP injection pump again. Never...

Bought my truck for $7000. Been through two sets of tires at $800-1000 each, and a NV4500 transmission conversion at $3000 installed. Just did $350 worth of front brake parts, installed by me. Stereo was free, pulled out of an old toyota before I sold it, speakers $50. Knaack tool box was $400, but I moved that over from my previous truck so I guess that really doesn't count. Been through one set of cheap NAPA HD gas shocks that are way overdue for replacement, two $65 drag links, two headlight switches at $35 each. That's about it.
What my truck needs right now:
steering gear and shaft $200-250
another drag link $65
new, better shocks $250
new, better seat $350-700
tires $800
replacement outlaw II alloy rim ??
pyrometer, boost gauge and tach $350?
new drivers door shell ???
paint!
Truck has 270k on it right now; I've put about 80,000 miles on this truck in three and a half years, most of that in the first 18 months. I love it and I hope to never sell it. The only thing I wish was different is that I would have liked the extra cab version, but I just couldn't find one with a 5 speed in the time frame that I needed it.
