jerky steering

It steers ok, not hard or anything, but when I go from straight to a slight turn, it feels like it catches, then pops over. Same to either side. I just got home from work and noticed this, and it's still dark and cold out, so I'm askin here before I have a look. Any opinions?? Thanks

It could be in your steering box. Mine was jerky from straight to turn but it would want to pull all over the place. I have no idea if there is a way to test the box rather than replace it. Sorry its an expensive replace, but it fixed mine. Is it 4x4 or 2x4. Could also be a worn king pin

It's a 4x4. I hope it's not the box, but I was thinking that also.

Have you ever replaced the king pins or at least the bushings at the top of the knuckle? It's hard to check for play in the king pins, the whole assembly is that heavy good luck moving it, and watching at the same time. One other thing you could try is refilling your power steering pump and rebleeding the pump and lines. Its out in left field but you never know it could have a air pocket somewhere that wont work out. My pump would actually bubble and foam a little and I was running synthetic power fluid, replaced the box and filled it with auto tranny fluid. been great ever since.

Mine is doing the same thing right now. All I can figure is that my pump is worn out. If you find anything let me know. Thanks!

If your pump is going it would have real hard spots when you try to turn? Right? I'm just asking. Anyone have had a pump die? Sucks eighter pump or box its not cheap.

I was having the same problem last year. I replaced the steering gearbox. Checked everything I could think of. It wound up being the hubs. They were getting dry and and the snap ring dislodged and would drag intermitently. Try locking in your hubs and see if the problem goes away.
