Well you guy's were right. I had to take the intercooler out this afternoon. I pressurized the system and could hear a leak but couldn't find it. After takeing out the intercooler I pressurized just the unit and fould a pretty good size leak. I don't know how much pressure I put in it but it drained it pretty fasts. I guess it's the size of a small pin hole. I can feel it coming out and I think I can get to it.

The question is what is the proper way to repair the hole? Is there something I can get like liquid soulder or something like it that is compatable with the metal that will hold up? In other words can I repair this thing myself?

Last question is of course. What should I expect my boost to be after the repair? I am runnin 17lbs now wot at 1200*. I was told it doesn't take much of a leak to really pull down your boost pressure. This is a pretty good leak.

If you know somebody who's good with a TIG machine, that would be the way to go.

No I don't. The problem is I gotta be on the road on Wednesday. If I have to I'll put it all back together and wait to get it to a shop when I get back. Is there anything I can us from a hardware store to repair the leak?

You could use JB weld, but I don't think you'll be able to get it TIG'd after that. That stuff is impossible to get off. Of course, if it holds up it won't need to come off. I have used it successfully on a radiator with a 16 psi cap, if you get the area really clean it will probably hold just fine. How small a hole are we talking here?

It was getting dark so i really didn't see the leak. I sure can feel it though. When the system was together I pressurized it till the boots started to elongate. I just had enough time to get to the front of the truck to hear the leak then it was gone. I think it's a pretty good size leak. I can feel ithe air leaking like a pinhole. It doesn't take long to bleed the system to no pressure.

I sure hope this will increase my boost numbers

The radiator shop that fixed mine used a "Epoxy product" to fix mine.So far so good,about 6 month's and 35+ lbs of boost..they only tested it to 30lbs. well see.. They said it's a NASA product?

A NASA product? The only other epoxy I've seen that's comparable to JB Weld is LAB-Metal, that stuff is good enough to tap threads into.

Can ya get that stuff at a hardware store? Also what is the best stuff to clean the metal with before i put that stuff on it?

I fixed my pin hole with Permatex Titainium 2 part epoxy fcost about $ 8.00 with a small round wire brush to clean the intercooler it holds to 40psi and I did it on the truck, and let it dry overnight. No problems since.

You got lucky. My leak was in the back toward the radiator. I guess I'll clean er up in the morning and put somethin on er. Don't have all day of course so I'll put er back together on Monday.

Can hardly wait to see if it increases my boost numbers and to what.

Like Jared said, use a CLEAN wire brush. Then use acetone, laquer thinner, or brake cleaner to make sure there are no oily residues. Make sure you give it the recommended dry time before you put boost to it. JB Weld is at every hardware store. I have used it with good success for several repairs, including a radiator.

Well I'm headed out to get this thing repaired. I figure I'll clean it up and repaire the hole and let it set till tomorrow.

Hey Dave is there a silencer ring on my 16 housing? If so what are the effects of removeing it?

Ok I put JB on it and I think it will work fine. I would like to paint the bare places on the heat exchanger. Is there a special paint for aluminum? Can I use Krylon or the like on aluminum?

I plan to get it all back together tomorrow. Sure hope it works.

I'd go for a light coat of flat black for maximum heat transmission. As long as the hole wasn't too big and it's not a stressed spot where the hole is likely to flex you should be OK.

Silencer rings are found on the compressor side, but the H1C's didn't have them.
