Question Injectors and economy

With the climb in fuel prices, I hate to say it but, the truck is on towing duty only. Most of my towing this summer will be towing a 35' travel trailer (somewhere around 10k I'd guess) cross country for vacation.

Last summer when I towed, I didn't necessarily drive with economy in mind and I got 10-11 MPG. The injectors are still what was in it when I bought it. Since then, I downsized from 5" to 4" exhaust outlet and added a resonator to cut the noise level. I also replaced the 235-85R16 tires with 245-75R16 tires (about 1/2" shorter diameter, oops). None of those things will help economy.

My thought is that new injectors should help economy somewhat since the current ones are of unknown age and condition. My goal is to get somewhere around 13-15 mpg while towing in a mileage conscious mode. Any suggestions as to which injectors would give the best economy? I honestly expect that I'll be towing at 55-60mph although a little bit more power would be nice.

I do still have a stock HX-35 and a 16cm housing that I can install to replace the stock turbo and 18.5cm housing if that's a step in the correct direction but at this point, I'm just stepping back and reevaluating the whole picture.

Thoughts and recommendations to consider?

The only thing that has seriously affected my mileage has been my right foot. I don't know what speed you're towing at but if you drop that speed down to at least 60 that will probably help mileage the most. I have always wanted a set of injectors that gave me the option of more power when needed. When stock I found it hard to maintain 55-60 into a 35 mph head wind. In Iowa I ran my worst mileage - 9.6 - running into a 35 mph headwind at 65 mph - running Bosch 180s.

Take a little more time on your trip and enjoy this great country. I've done it in 4.5 days and 10 days. 10 days was by far the best.

Enjoy the trip!!

If I was you I would keep the shorter tires on there. You have high gears and if your going to slow down to 60-65 then they will put you in a better rpm range than the taller tires. Plus they are lighter and less rotating mass is good. I have the same 245/75/16's on my truck and get a consistant 27mpg if I keep it around 63mph. I have done a few more things to it since and will be trying to break 28 or better today on my trip from Houston to Houma,LA.

The hx35 isnt neccisary, your stock large exhaust housing will do better towing and keep EGT's lower. As far as injectors, that depends on how your going to drive, but IMO the 190's can make 300whp and are a very clean injector that normaly give a 1-2mpg gain over old stock ones.
