Injection pump problem

Injection pump problem
I recently purchased a 91 Cummins from a guy. He said that he installed a new electric fuel pump on it. The pump had too much pressure and he said it leaks around the injection pump and fuel filter. Well I only bought it for $700 so I didn't really care. It is a 2wd dually with 230,000 miles on it. Any suggestions of what I should do. I have never took the VE pump apart before. What should i do.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Depending on how long he drove it before he noticed the leak - you may have a blown front seal on the IP.
IF you do you have fuel in your oil pan...Pull the dipstick and see if the oil looks different than 'just' oil....
Since I haven't had the pleasure of blowing a front seal I'm not sure what the oil will look like --- but it won't look like oil .....
Hopefiully the leak was discovered before any major damage occurred....
Now you know why the truck was only $700.
BUT you might be lucky and end up with a gem.

put a pressure gauge on it preferably permanently, but you can just mount a cheapy one on the engine for diagnostics. Turn on the pump and check the pressure. If it's higher than 15psi or so.... it's too high, if it's not, then it's probably just a bad fuel heater gasket or something that coincidentally started to leak with the pump install.
