Indexing required in VSS/ration adaptor?

I keep seeing this mentioned but not grasping any solid info on it. Trying to get the ol speedo rollin. Gears and speedo head are perfect. Grounded the blue wire. Hooked a drill to the VSS with the key on and ....crickets...

No special requirements needed for the VSS or ratio adapter.

Not sure about a NP205... but on the NP241 in my '90 Ramcharger, indexing the speedo gear matters. The part that plugs into the tailhousing is on an eccentric, so if you don't clock it right, the gears don't mesh.

I found out the hard way after having the tailhousing off to change the output seal.

You are correct. The NP-241 needs to be indexed correctly the NP-205 unit, only threads in one way.
