I wouldn't have no luck at all.

Well the 92 has recently started howling like a banshee from the drive train.

it seems to be most pronounced in 3rd gear. put it in neutral and it goes away. My local trans shop told me what it might be (exactly what, i don't remember). i asked how long before it went catastrophic and he told me he'd never seen one let go completely. since i already have one gimp truck i'm going to have to just take it easy on her for a while and hope she doesn't blow up, at least until i have a place to work on it.

The trans shop quoted me $1800 for a rebuild. I figure if I'm going to spend that kind of money, i might as well upgrade, right? it seems to me like i could get most if not all of the parts for a 47rh conversion for as much, maybe less than $1800. I've been looking for definitive 47rh swap threads, but I've not had much luck. right now i just don't know what i want to do.

i feel the same way... the 47 would be nice trans to have in there, me personally i would do a 5speed swap either a 4500 or G56 but thats because i prefer std trans over auto, but yeah for that price i would upgrade as well. good luck, wish i could be more help

i would love a manual but that seems like it would be the most expensive route.

if you hang on for about a week you will have one. I am in the process of doing it right now. I took a boat load of pictures and plan on making a post about it. Currently there is a good post in the sticky about the swap that JD730 made. That is what i am following. I just plan on giving pictures of the whole process.

As for the 47rh, if your going to do it right it will end up costing more than 1800 bucks. I have about 2400 dollars in parts into mine.

Did you get a stock tranny, new used or rebuilt?

what else did you have to buy?

got the tranny used along with all the other parts for the swap. it was rebuilt 25,000 miles ago and in fair shape. I got a Goerend triple disk converter and their valve body and billet apply strap and anchor. I hope to have a billet input shaft in a couple of months.

Sorry to hear that. Do you have any plans as of yet to what you are going to do to the tranny? A stock rebuild will be under a grand, excluding converter of course.

under a grand you say? point me in the right direction cause my local tranny shop quoted me $1800.

at this point i'm going to focus my attention on fixing the 89 as it will only require a few hundred dollars and a CRAPLOAD of work.

i cant afford to do anything as of yet. hopefully i can sell the 89 and put the money from that into the 92.

at this point i'm open to anything really. preferably i would switch to a 47rh or a nv4500, but if a decent a518 makes itself available at a good price, i may just go with that.

yeah from what i hear the 4500's are becoming more and more $$ as well as parts to fix them.

what trans is in the 89? would it be worth while to swap trans from one to the other to get you by till you get some more cash saved up?

its a 727 (no OD). its feasible but would at the very least require a new drive shaft. i'd rather just fix the 89 and drive that around in the meantime.

i talked to dodge today. seems i can get a new 47rh with torque converter for about $2000. thats with 25% off list.

seemed like a reasonable deal to me.

there were 3 different numbers he had for the transmission. any idea which one i would need?

$1800 to rebuild a non lock up tranny? That is crazy, I would expect to pay more around $800 from a good tranny guy.

I would pay $2000 for the 47RH from Dodge. I would get a used one from a 2nd gen, and use the money you save to get if beefed up. You would have to do it with a new tranny anyways, so might as well start with a cheaper one. That is what I would do at least.
