idles a little lower upon start-up

need some opinions. the winter is definitely coming upon my hometown and it seems each time i start up the truck (early morning and late afternoon), it's been idling slower than it has in the past. i'm sure hoping it's just the cold air and contracting metals that's resulting in more restriction of moving/rotating parts. it seems to only run at about 650RPM. i usually wait for the oil pressure to come up and then i just touch the pedal and it'll come up to between 700-750RPM like it should be. for some reason the governor spring has crossed my mind and i sure hope the cause isn't because it's wearing out. it'd give me a good excuse to install the 366 spring, but i don't have 60lbs valve springs yet. although, i can easily control my RPM's with my right foot. any thoughts or am i just paranoid?

its just the colder air mine does the exact same. 3200 spring would be a good thing to do either way. you also dont need the stronger valve springs for the 3200 gov spring

yea the 1st gens we've had do the same thing.

you don't need 60lb springs for the 3200 366 spring.

well i do know the 366 spring is a good thing regardless but i've heard that even though the 366 spring only fuels up to 3200RPM, it can still turn beyond that and around 3600-3800RPM is when the valves begin to float. anyhow, good to know it's just the cold air. kinda worried me when it first happened and continued to do it.

Yeah you shouldn't need the heavier springs, just don't let the motor rev that high. Are the springs really 60 pounds? or 60# heavier than stock? My truck idles lower, when its cold, it also takes 8-10 for the oil to come up to pressure. Used to take 3-5 seconds. It also makes more smoke for awhile... a long while. These are just typical symptoms of diesels, when its cold... just be lucky you don't have a powerless ford when its cold out and ur running late for work... because you will be! Just be glad it starts :-)

They are called 60# springs because they will not float with 60 psi of exhaust backpressure (encountered when using an exhaust brake).

Ok, because i know normal springs, on a gasser start, around 300 and performance ones have spring rates around 600#. 60 just didn't seem enough.
