Idler pulley/bearing topic....
Currently I'm running an experimental unit in my own truck. I can't go into details but so far it seems to work well and is showing no problems, should last for basically lifetime or near to it and is easier on the belt itself....

Come on PB, let me in on the secret, I was going to try to run two roller bearrings on mine instead of the one wide one. that might be the easiest way to go.

i have a problem with my idler pully when the a/c is on. it clatters loudly until i turn off the a/c. is my compressor getting worn and causing too much of a load or is the pully bad? it only clatters with the a/c.

My belt started chirping a few months ago, I installed a new tensioner
and the noise stopped. The tension spring gets weak over time causing
belt slipage.

so you guys are telling me I should've changed my tensioner recently instead of my belt? I'v been changing my belts about once a year for the past few years now. This last time I noticed that the old belt didn't look to bad and didn't seem to be stretched too much when compare to the new one. Maybe I need a new tensioner???

How about making a tensioner shoe out of Samarium Cobalt magnets that will attract the metal threads in the belt and keep it tight without any contact at all!

Oh crap you guys....I AM sorry...this thread drifted outta my radar....
I'll go to the source for this tensioner pulley and come back with some info if there are no objections..
Also, I've almost never found a CTD that didn't do the 'ugly owl screech' when it stopped, even with a new tensioner.
I bought some cheap belt dressing (not WD40 or similar lubes) and the screech went away instantly.
BTW, I think there are two or three of us testing these pulleys and we've all had good service/luck with em...

edit: OH...one other item here....on the front of the AC unit is a 'plate' (cause I don't what else to call it). That plate is often found to be cracked along some of the performations in it...this is common too....that might be the AC noise your hearing....
It's the AC pulley thingy hootchamcallit....sorry, it's late...

The screech is caused by the accessories trying to drive the belt when the engine stops. Stick trucks usually don't screech. The heavy flywheel keeps the engine from stopping quite so suddenly.
