Idle Solution
Hey all, me again. I just turned up my pump, turned AFC screw down 2 turns, rotated AFC diaphram 120 dergress, turned AFC star wheel one turn clock wise, and turned power screw in 2 turns. I now have a high idle problem. I turned my idle screw out, but the idle did not drop. I love the new power my truck has. Not sure I care for the added noise with the straight pipe. Anyone tell me what I can do about the idle with out losing the power increase?
Thanx!

If you back out the idle screw and the idle does not drop then you will need to adjust the throttle linkage, the metal rod with the plastic ends. You will need to extend it. Also you should look into getting a set of gauges since you are tweaking your pump and pulling a lot of weight. Also, get yourself a governor spring.

You may also have to do some grinding on the bellcrank or move the fuel inlet line a little. Those things can hang up the throttle arm and keep it from dropping onto the screw.

RockJeep- I am sorry, I forgot to put that in in my first post. I did adjust the throttle rod, to no avail. Tach, Pyrometer, Boost, Fuel Pressure Gauges are on order. Thanx.. L.W.
WannaDiesel/Dave- I will check out your suggestion, it has to be one of those, I have tried everything else.Thanx... L.W.
Any suggestions on how to tone down the noise with out losing the free flow of the straight pipe. I am now just running a straight 3" pipe. Especially since I turned the pump up. The noise is awful. The neighbors I think are planning to burn my truck.
I am planning on running a 4" or 5" straight stack, but I am in the middle of building a custom bed for my truck, and it will be incorporated in when that is installed.

Get a good diesel muffler. Car mufflers don't cut it, they don't flow well and they tend to plug. Unless you are going to change the muffler system when you add the stack, you need a pretty short one. A truck parts store would be a good place to go shopping. 4" or 5" pipe will "mellow" the tone some, but it will still be loud without a muffler.

Can you see if the throttle lever is actually hitting the stop screw. If its not then like Wanna said you have the fuel line or something limiting your throttle throw.
About 3 years ago I built my own 4" exhaust sytem. I purchased a full 4" in and out walker dynomax muffler from JEGs for $73. It keeps the noise down and is a straight through type muffler.

I had to gind the idle screw lever because it was hitting the pump instead of rotating all the way back to the idle screw. I think this is a common problem with a turned up pump....
