First off, make sure its running correctly and that all maintenance issues have been addressed.
I would start with the front suspension, good alignment, condition of steering shaft: Changed to a Borgenson shaft.
From there:
Brakes, good quality components up front, switch to 3" shoes in the rear
Exhaust: ditch the muffler, go to either either a sidepipe or a stack
Fuel System: MAke sure tank is clean, run a piston lift pump change to PODS
Gauages, Gauges Gauges
Tweak the pump

Advance the timing and install a 3200 RPM governor spring.
POD's would be a bad idea if mileage is important.
The Dodge rebuild kit for the steering coupler works well for the 2wd trucks. It's worthless on the 4X4's because of the angle it has to operate at.
And you at least need trans temp and pyrometer gauges.

Clean nice truck. Yep, all maintenance and then air in, fuel, exhaust out. Be sure to read the tech tips. The best around. This will allow you to understand what the mod will do and if it is right for you and if you can do it yourself.
