One can usually score one at a boneyard for 1-$200. Ive never paid more for it cause they are so common. Really, the 70 and the 14 bolt make for a good wrestling match, but the parts (gears, lockers) for the 14 bolt are WAAAAAYYYY cheaper. The 70 will have the 1.5" 35 spline shafts, 14 has 1.5" 30 spline....both have the same diameter ring gear. Stamp DANA on something... and its gold.

Thanks for the info Mike,
So if the spline is different, What would be the best way to make the dodge driveshaft mate with the chev 14 10.5?? I knew it woulden't be as easy as swapping the yolks...... Probably a cut and reweld job...... Can the dana be made to work under the motorhome? I suspect not due to the fact that the dodge wasn't a dually, so I bet the tubes are the wrong length.

Oh, no, that was carrier spline. 14 bolts have come with yokes ranging from 1330's to our 1410 size. A driveshaft shop can supply you with the proper yoke no problem.

Great I'll pull off both yolks and see if there is something out there that can match.
Any good sources for the 14 gears for a reasonable price? I'm looking to get rid of the 456 and get about a 330 or so.

Around here you trip over them in the yards lol.
Just don't buy one with a gov-lock in it. They are not supported by the after market with their oddball 3 spider carrier (vs the 4 crosspin regular version).

$75-$150 for one in a yard. More for one some body has gone through already.

Most 14b housings are the same width. The hubs are just made different to get the various widths they needed, so it is easy to customize them. Disc brake brackets are cheap as well. I put discs on the one in my rock crawler for less than fixing up the drums.

Exclamation This is not a swap meet!

We interrupt this thread for a message from the DTR staff:

Please don't discuss buying/selling/swapping parts in open forum. Use the PM system for that.

Thank you.

As you were.

well i sure do appreciate the input! the gentleman i was thinking of trading with has opted to let me keep this, and i'm kinda glad, as it seems like it'll be a nice little gem! i'm gonna pull the cover sometime soon to see what's actually in it. anyone know where i can get a good posi unit for this thing? would a locker be OK if i couldn't come up with a posi? i think instead of going down in gear, i may just go up in tire size.

so on that note, i may have to lift the truck. i've got factory sagging front springs. anyone know what the "ground-to-fender-lip" height should be on a truck with good factory springs? any idea what size tire i can run on this truck without any problems? i'm current running a 235/80/16

detroit lockers are cheap for the 14b. The carrier is so heavy they just go inside of it instead of replacing it like on a Dana axle.

Does the GM axle just bolt up...or is some fitting required?

I was wondering what the width of rearend out of a single wheel dodge was? I am probbaly going to be replacing a dually rearend with a single wheel. I have a few 14 bolts. Does any one know which one you need? One 1 ton dually, a 1 ton single wheel, and a regular 3/4 ton. What do the leafsprings measure center to center? I know a chevy 3/4 and 1 ton are different.
I know alot of rambling/ questions.
