Yep. That's 0.2". Doing this allows the studs to be bottomed on the block holes and still clear the valve cover webbing.

You caught my post before I deleted it .
I didn't know it was 0.2". I knew there was a 2 in the dimension somewhere. For some reason, 0.020" came to mind.

I'm on track for studding and slamming that new head on this weekend. My truck has only been down two weeks, bit it seems a lot more!

Yes. ARP engineers their studs for full engagement in the block. Of you don't mill the stands there is almost 1/4" less thread engagement and the strength would be compromized as well as a change in the torque specs.
