I found therapy in my truck this weekend
With 250K+ miles I figured the turbo was probably due for rebuild/upgrade.
So out came the old H1C
I went with a genuine holset kit, you can use those ebay kits and save about 15 dollars or use the real deal, I like the peace of mind.
The plans are to add a 12cm wastegated exhaust housing and a 60mm inducer housing with 8 blade wheel. While I had it out and went ahead and port matched the turbo and exhaust manifold. Here are the pics. I won't do a write up, because all you have to do is google "H1C rebuild"
12cm housing
GDS inducer upgrade
Ported housing
Broken down
walnut shell stripped wheel and exhaust shield, make sure you do not mar the shaft where the bearings ride
Brass bearing and thrust plate soaking in engine oil waiting install
All buttoned up and back on the truck only took about 3 hours to do from start to finish, including media stripping and porting!
It runs a lot better! I don't have a pyro so I can't tell how much cooler it runs, but the lag between gears is completely gone now.
