I/C thermostat housing interchange

I want to swap in the crossflow I/C style radiator and was wondering if any of the 2nd gen t-stat housing/waternecks would work. I just had my radiator cleaned out and it's not long with this world, so I was thinkin of upgrading to the later style that is more efficient. I know I can get a new one from Cummins but I like used prices better.

Sorry I don't know if it would work but I'd like to knoe if you had to change out the radiator support to fit the cross flow radiator

Yes the 2nd gen housing will fit. It is set up for a check valve that vents to the "bleeder" port in the cylinder heads.Basically it is a check valve that burps air. It is my opinion that this is the reason a 2nd gen seems to have a more stable temp sweep while warming up. The 1st gen's I have been around seem to climb a little higher than normal, then the thermostat opens and it stabilizes.

To swap the 2nd gen parts you will need the housing w/ fitting, check valve that goes into the 1/2" NPT port in the head, and the hose to connect the two.

If you don't want to, just plug the hole in the thermo housing.

Swapping the rad will require a newer style rad. support or some fabricating.

I planned on fabbing the radiator support to make the I/C rad fit, would I need to fab the 2nd gen t-stat housing for the alternator bracket???

Just get a 2nd gen or a later ic t stat housing. The 2nd gen takes a bigger t stat tho

Drilling a small hole in the stat also helps stabilize water temps.

The 2nd gens seem to take a lot longer to warm up, though. I don't like that.
